XHTML Authoring and Design Techniques

This course is created for students with HTML and CSS experience and provides the skills and knowledge necessary to develop more standards-compliant Web sites for greater efficiency, accessibility, and forward-compatibility.

After completing this one-day course, students will know how to:

  • Identify the rules of XHTML authoring, determine which DTD is best for a given project, create and validate a simple XHTML document, and convert existing HTML pages to XHTML.
  • Identify the significance and advantages of structured, self-descriptive markup, define content sections with the element and id attribute, apply CSS styles to an id, and use classes to create custom elements.
  • Determine the most appropriate location for a given style; define custom default elements; control the display status of an element; write efficient CSS code; apply borders, padding, and margins; and apply font and text styles.
  • Embed an image, write effective alternative text, use background images to create consistent and efficient design components, create intradocument links and contextual style, provide links to essential resources, and embed Flash movies in an XHTML document while preserving document validity
