After completing this one-day course, students will know how to:

  • Start Photoshop, open an existing file, explore the toolbox and palettes, create keyboard shortcuts, use and customize the Help menu, and use viewing tools
  • Change image size and canvas size, use File Browser to view and change the display of files, add flags and keywords to files, modify images for the Web and print by saving images in appropriate file formats, and create and save a file
  • Use the Marquee, the Lasso, and the Magic Wand tools to make selections, modify a selection by adding to or subtracting from it, copy and paste, and move selections, use the Crop tool and the Trim command to discard parts of an image, and transform selections by using the Skew, the Distort, and the Perspective commands
  • Explore layers, manage layer placement and visibility, create, rename, and delete layers, create and format type layers, warp text, and link, merge, and flatten layers
  • Edit foreground and background colors by using the Color and Swatches palettes, the color ramp, and Color Picker, choose custom colors, pick colors by using the Eyedropper tool, create gradients, draw with the Pencil and Brush tools, create customized brushes, use the Eraser tool, the History palette, and History brush tools, and use the Clone and Pattern Stamp tools and the Pattern Maker command
  • Retouch images by using the Brightness/Contrast, Curves, Color Balance, Hue/Saturation, and Auto Color commands, retouch photographs by using the Healing Brush, the Dodge, the Burn, the Sponge, the Blur, the Sharpen, and the Smudge tools
