After completing this one-day course, students will know how to:

  • Use rulers, guides, and grids to position objects precisely in an image layout and set preferences, use selection options to fade selections, apply borders to selections, and expand selections.
  • Use shape tools to draw rectangles, ellipses, polygons, lines, and custom shapes, use the Pen tool to create paths, use the Direct Selection and Path Selection tools to select and edit shapes and drawings, and add text to a path.
  • Explore the Histogram palette and retouch images by using the Levels, Shadow/Highlights, and Variations commands.
  • Change layer opacity and use layer blending modes; create layer sets and use layer locking;, add and edit layer effects, copy layer effects to another layer, convert layer effects to new layers; add, create, and save styles; create and edit adjustment layers; and use the Layer Comps palette.
  • Use the Channels palette to save and load selections, use Quick Mask to create and edit irregular selections, use layer masks and clipping masks to hide or reveal areas of a layer, use the Horizontal Type Mask tool to create a type mask, and use the Background Eraser tool and the Extract command.
  • Apply the Noise and Rendering filters, the Brush Strokes filter, the Texture filter to images, and use the Liquify filter to modify images.
  • Record, playback, and edit actions to automate Photoshop commands, and use Automate commands such as Batch, Contact Sheet, Web Photo Gallery, Crop and Straighten Photos, and PDF presentation.
  • Soft proof images, set print options, optimize images, create slices, and save optimized and sliced images
