JavaScript: Basic

Students will get the most out of this one-day course if their goal is to become proficient Web page designers by using JavaScript. They'll know how to use variables, operators, functions, objects, and write scripts for form elements

After completing this course, students will know how to:

• Identify the advantages of JavaScript and use the < SCRIPT> tag.
• Use variables, data types, functions, operators, and control structures.
• Identify JavaScript objects and use Date and String objects.
• Write to a Web page using document.write() and create a new window using the window.open() method.
• Handle events on a form and write scripts for list boxes, check boxes, and radio buttons
  

Target audience

Students should have familiarity with personal computers and the use of the keyboard and mouse. Students should have completed HTML Basic and Intermediate courses or have equivalent knowledge and experience. In addition, students should have a knowledge of programming logic and techniques, and the basic concepts of object-oriented programming.

Working with Date and String objects Displaying the current date and time on a Web page • Finding the length of a string

Writing to a Web page Using the write and writeln methods • Displaying the last modified date on a Web page

Creating new windows Opening a new window from a Web page using JavaScript • Changing the attributes of a window

Handling events on a form Accessing form elements • Understanding event handling • Writing an event handler for the Submit button • Validating data entered in a text box
