Oracle Application Server 10g Administration I

This course introduces one to the architecture and the administration of web servers and application servers using the Oracle10g Application Server platform. The course includes a combination of in-depth conceptual discussions together with numerous hands-on implementation exercises. Differences and capabilities between the R1, R2 and R3 releases of Oracle Application Server 10g are all included. Among the subjects covered are:

  • The conceptual and theoretical basis for web and application servers and their role within modern enterprise-scale systems infrastructures. Included is an overview of key concepts such as a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
  • A detailed architectural discussion of the application server and its components, and how these interoperate to provide application and web services. Learn how the Application Server supports industry standards for Java, ESI, LDAP, SSL and many others.
  • Capacity planning, initial installation and configuration of Application Server instances, including the Infrastructure and Middle Tier platforms.
  • Startup, shutdown and other fundamental operations for the basic services and components of the Application Server.
  • Become familiar with the most common Web-based, GUI-based and text-based administration tools available for the AS components. Using those tools, administer the services to meet the requirements of your environment.
  • Configure the HTTP Server and Web Cache
  • Learn basic troubleshooting skills for installation and configuration
  • Perform at least minimal access to and exercise of the primary Middle Tier components such as Business Intelligence Reports and Discoverer, Portal, Wireless and others.
  • Configure critical Infrastructure instance components used for identity management, such as Single Sign-on, Certificate Authority, Oracle Internet Directory and others

Target audience

The target audience for this course is Oracle application server administrators. Database administrators, information systems architects, and Java and web-based application developers interested in becoming familiar with the application server platform will also benefit from this course.

It is assumed that the reader has some general experience using, developing or administering information systems technologies. Students should also have general familiarity with HTML or XHTML, Java language and development and the operating system platform on which the Oracle Application Server will operate.
