Introduction to the Internet with Internet Explorer 6.0

This course provides trainees with an introduction to the concept of the Internet and the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of how the World Wide Web works. They will become proficient at using the Internet Explorer 6.0 browser, learning how to search for, find and access information on the Web using a variety of different software tools. They will be able to communicate information with others by means of Internet e-mail and newsgroups.

Target audience

Anyone thinking of connecting to the Internet and browsing the World Wide Web using Internet Explorer 6.0. A working knowledge of PCs and Windows is assumed, gained from the workplace or by prior attendance on a "PC Fundamentals" course.

Getting Started with Internet Explorer 6 Understand the internet, the world wide web and web pages • Start Internet Explorer • Recognise elements of the screen • Get Help using Internet Explorer

Browsing Web Pages Use hyperlinks to move from one web page to another • Recognise different types of hyperlinks • Use the Back and Forward buttons to move between pages you have visited • Use the Stop and Refresh buttons to control the display of pages • Understand and set your home page • Browse in full-screen mode • Find text in a page • Open HTML files on a PC or PC Network

Browsing the World Wide Web Understand the content and structure of a URL • Jump to a website by using its URL • Use URLs in your History list • Set up a list of favourite links • Organise your favourite links and use the Links bar
